Commander´s house

This part of the Gate House forms the remarkable ensemble of buildings at the fortress’s west side together with George’s Castle and the Strike Defences. The fortress commanders lived here with their families. Until 1913, Königstein Fortress had an official commander’s post. The fortress commander was responsible for the garrison’s duties and was subordinate to the governor in Dresden.
