Baroque meets wine at Königstein

Open Air

Let's celebrate 300 years of giant wine barrel at Königstein Fortress

Königstein Fortress is celebrating a special anniversary in 2025! In 1725, the largest wine barrel in the world at the time was inaugurated here in the presence of Augustus the Strong.

Two years earlier, this giant barrel had already been built with great enthusiasm in the cellar of Magdalenenburg Castle, which is carved deep into the rock of the Königstein.
Augustus the Strong, who commissioned the project, took the opportunity to attend the inauguration party on the Königstein himself with a large entourage. Such an important visitor was a logistical challenge. The equipment - party tents and furniture, food and drink - was brought along. The court band played and court jesters entertained the guests.

Reason enough to send visitors back in time to the year 1725!
The anniversary guests of 2025 will get an impression of the Baroque splendour 300 years after this former spectacle and can look forward to a grandiose show: the court will come to life again and experience the barrel 300 years later in a modern form. There will be 2 days of celebrations modelled on historical events - dining, fighting, singing and dancing.
Visitors can actively participate and will be right in the centre of the action.
