Your program can be tailored to individual needs: Walk around the fortress yourself with the audio guide, or go on a guided tour, which even gives you access to otherwise closed rooms.

A visit to our exhibitions gives you an insight into the multifaceted fortress history.

The manifold special events – such as organ concerts at the Garrison Church, military historic spectacles, or even our historical romantic Christmas Market – are included in the admission fee and offer your tour group a very special additional experience.

Also use the diverse culinary offers at Königstein Fortress. Offers range from an individual visit to the self-service restaurant to a "culinary time travel" at our event restaurant “In the Casemates”.

Audioguide for Adults

For individual tours of the fortress complex and the exhibition "In lapide regis - On the King's Stone" we recommend the Königstein Fortress audio guide.

Together with the audio device, guests are given a fortress map, so that they can plan their own visit. In it, the 14 most important of around 60 locations are indicated – however there is no specified tour.

Audioguide for children

For visits to the fortress with children's groups, we recommend using the children's audio guides. Children are invited to go on a discovery tour with Max, Marie, and Fortress Commander Alfred von Oer. As a time traveler from the year 1900, he has many exciting stories to tell about what life was like on the fortress in the past. The narrations are accompanied by sounds and music. For example, in the state prison, you can hear the clinking of chains and the conversations of the prisoners.

  • The children's audio guide is also available free of charge online.

Event highlights for tourist groups

The Swedish Conquer Königstein Fortress

Historically uniformed groups from different federal states and some bordering countries represent the lives of the soldiers during the Thirty Years’ War.

The event remains of the occurrences of the year 1639, when Swedish troops passed the Fortress – coming from Pirna to move into Königstein town. However, a siege and conquest of Königstein Fortress has not taken place in this time and also not later. The fictive conquest, the fighting groups and the military camp give and impression of the military everyday life in the time of the Thirty Years’ War.

Thunder of cannons above Elbe Valley

Discover more than 200 cannoneers in uniforms and historic personalities at the „Thunder of Cannons above the Elbe Valley“ - 20 exact copies of historic cannon types from the 14th to the 19th century will be fired several times throughout the day. Drummers will provide proper march music, musketeers exercise an shoot at the parade ground.

Have the functioning of cannons explained to you directly by Saxon mercenaries, Prussian artillery brigades and many others.
