When the castle was converted into a fortress, a wooden “crane” – a lift worked using a treadmill –was erected for transporting construction material at the rock plateau’s west side in 1589. After the end of the first construction period, in 1592, all tread cranes were removed and a new wooden crane was installed in a casemate at the southwest side. It was probably operated until 1875 and mainly supplied Königstein hill with construction timber.
