Königstein Fortress opens one of its most historically valuable buildings for a special photo opportunity: the Garrison Church. It was originally built as a castle chapel in the 13th century and consecrated 350 years ago as the first garrison church in Saxony.
This impressive structure reflects many eras of the fortress's history – from the Middle Ages through the Baroque period to the GDR era. Within its walls, architectural elements and stylistic features from centuries past are united: testaments to its varied use, transformation, and restoration.
Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., we invite you to join special guided tours: Every 30 minutes, groups of up to 20 people depart, accompanied by a guide who will share fascinating stories and background information about this centuries-old building. No registration is required – access is directly at the Garrison Church, in the heart of the fortress next to Magdalenenburg.
