Departures

Bicycle

So far, NO cycle path leads up to the fortress. Possible connections from the Elberadweg:

The safe way

Our recommendation:
Cycle from Obervogelgesang to or through the village of Struppen - after leaving Struppen turn right in the direction of Leupoldishain - take the 2nd exit at the roundabout - turn left immediately afterwards (sign "Spielplatzwelt") - turn left after approx. 100 m (forest road) - cycle parallel to the B172 to the turn-off to the fortress.

The quick way

From the town of Königstein take the B172 towards Pirna
Caution - heavy traffic, permitted up to 100 km/h!
Approximately 2.5km after leaving the town, turn left to the Königstein Fortress car park, another 700 m (steep climb) to the fortress forecourt and entrance

Along woodland trails

From the town of Königstein via Alte Festungsstraße / Malerweg to the fortress forecourt or entrance. Steep ascent from Malerweg (hiking trail - red dot), old cobblestones, some steps

Suitable for mountain bikes / off-road bikes

Bicycle racks and luggage lockers at the fortress entrance (opposite main ticket office).

The fortress is located on the 7th stage of the Malerweg hiking trail:

Kurort Gohrisch - Pfaffenstein - Quirl - Stadt Königstein
- Festung Königstein - Thürmsdorf - Weißig

16,6 km without side trip, walking time: 6:15 h

additional time (+2 hours at least) for visiting the fortress is recommended
