About the history of the Garrison Church

Saxony's oldest garrison church owes its name to its patron saint, the dragon slayer Saint George. In its 800-year history it has been a Romanesque castle chapel, monastery church, garrison church, cinema hall, gymnasium and building materials warehouse.

In 1992, a comprehensive renovation of the exterior facade began. The restoration of the coffered ceiling was followed by the wall and chancel decoration and the renovation of the belfry. In 1999, the Jehmlich company began the construction of the new organ. The oldest garrison church in the country was ceremoniously reopened at Whitsun 2000.

In addition to church services, weddings and baptisms, organ concerts also take place regularly today.

Organ concerts in the Garrison Church
