In the past, Königstein Fortress was considered unconquerable. No one made an effort to conquer this stronghold – except for chimney sweep Sebastian Abratzky. Seeking a real challenge, he climbed up in a chimney between two rocks in March 1848 without tools. For this bold action, the commander punished Abratzky with three days fortress detention. After serving his sentence, Abratzky had his adventures printed in a booklet, of whose proceeds he could make a living for a short while. He died in 1897 as a poor man. His grave is at Johannisfriedhof cemetery in Dresden.
