In the exhibition IN LAPIDE REGIS, selected verses of the probably best-known fortress song can be heard at a media station - the professions sung about in it are also depicted with original silhouettes.
The lyrics have a historical background: the professions that were once represented on Königstein are sung about in a humorous way. The soldiers permanently stationed here - semi-invalids since 1736 - also practised a civilian profession in addition to their military service. The latter was necessary to be able to withstand a prolonged siege in the event of war.
The song tells a story that is said to have happened in 1675. According to the story, the page Heinrich Carl von Grunau lay down to sleep on a narrow cliff edge of Friedrichsburg (then Christiansburg) after a drunken night. The next morning, the Elector had him woken up with kettledrums and trumpets - but only after the page had been secured with ropes.
