Horn with belltower

Horn mit Seigerturm
  • On the rocky outcrop called “Horn”, the bell tower was constructed in 1601.
  • It is one of the fortress former eight observation and flanking towers.

Today

Its German name, “Seiger” is an old word for clock: The tower is equipped with a sundial. In addition, a bell rang on the hour so that the guard soldiers below the fortress also knew what time it was.

Below the rampart run are the Horn Casemates constructed in the 19th century – bombproof rooms for accommodating the garrison in case of a siege.
