During the Napoleonic Wars, from October 1813, the Saxon King Frederick Augustus I. (1750 - 1827) was imprisoned first by Prussia, then by Austria. In June 1815, he returned to his country. In his honour, the square was renamed Augustus Square or King’s Square and, among others, planted with limes. The underground caches covered with a sod of grass had been created for a possible war: With that, damaged battery walls could have been repaired quickly.
